A rare set of four 'Mastro' dining chairs, designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa for Molteni in the 1980s. These chairs feature a striking, minimalist design with strong graphic lines and an architectural appearance. The structure consists of simple, solid frames made from black painted metal. The seats and backrests are upholstered in their original high-quality canvas, finished in a characteristic way, and are paired with black PVC end caps and feet. A leather ring reinforces the canvas where it meets the frame. Note that the canvas shows light staining and wear consistent with age. These chairs are based on the structural principle of the Monk chair but utilize oval tubular metal and different seat/back materials.
