This distinctive coffee table, the Tavolo con Ruote, was inspired by an industrial trolley Gae Aulenti observed at the FontanaArte plant. A piece of intuitive design, it foregoes traditional drafting for immediate prototyping from concept. The design cleverly substitutes the factory trolley's wooden shelf with a thick sheet of bevel-edged glass, serving as a nod to the company's history in glass production. It is fitted with free-rolling industrial wheels attached with optical black metal forks, transforming the utilitarian object into high-design furniture. The replacement of a single simple component dramatically alters the object's purpose and nature.
