An exquisite antique Japanese export desk and chair set from the Meiji period (late 19th Century). This matching set features deeply carved hardwood construction, prominently showcasing Mt. Fuji and dragon motifs. The desk has intricately carved legs ending in ball and claw feet, and scale carvings along the apron, topped with a surface that appears to have a leather inset. The accompanying chair mirrors the ornate carving style on its backrest. This set represents fine craftsmanship typical of Japanese export furniture of that era.
