An elegant and finely crafted folding chair, sometimes referred to as a Hunting Chair or Jiaoy Armchair, originating from the late 19th century Qing Dynasty. Constructed from rich Elm and Rosewood, this portable seat features intricate decorative metalwork at the joints and hinges for reinforcement. The craftsmanship is evident in the dovetailed top rail, assembled without glue or nails. The chair is adorned with traditional Chinese carvings symbolizing good fortune, including Chi-dragons on the seat façade and auspicious motifs like Qilin and Buddhist lions on the splat. It includes a handsome attached footstool for added comfort. The wood displays beautiful, dense grains, possibly of Huanghuali, which enhances its overall appeal. The piece is in excellent, solid, and usable condition, showing expected signs of age and minor wear consistent with its history, including some minor restoration evidence.
